DIY Fertilizer Idea: How to Create an Organic Fertilizer from Banana Peels
Many people buy bananas on a regular basis, but once they’re done eating them, they just simply throw the banana peels away in the trash. It’s actually quite wasteful because those banana peels can be used as compost or even as an organic fertilizer for plants.
Most plants need four nutrients in order for them to thrive. These nutrients are magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium—all of which are present in banana skins. Magnesium is responsible in maintaining the plant’s color (chlorophyll). Phosphorus is needed for the flowering and fruiting. Calcium breaks down other nutrients needed for stem and root growth. Lastly, potassium helps plants to stand firm against pests and diseases.
As you can see, even something as simple as a banana peel can really be beneficial for your garden. Now that you know about this, be sure to start saving those banana peels so you can create an organic fertilizer that your plants will surely love!
