New to Composting? Try These Simple Tips to Making Your Own Organic Compost

Good soil is a primary ingredient for gardening. It is where plants can get their daily nutrient supply. You can use certain products to condition your garden soil, but they don’t always contribute to the growth and development of your plants.

This is why many gardening experts suggest making your own organic soil (a.k.a. compost) instead. To come up with some good organic compost, you first need to collect some leftover fruits, vegetables, dead leaves, coffee grounds, grass clippings, eggshells, and any organic materials. Put them together in one area and be sure there’s no meat and dairy products in the pile.

Now that you’ve got enough ingredients to use, start pouring a small amount of water to the pile about once or twice weekly. Do not overwater it; it should just be moist like a wet sponge.

You’ll also need to turn the pile a few times per week. This is crucial especially since compost requires water and air to break down well. Now, it will take a couple of months for your compost pile to completely break down and transform into organic soil, but the wait will definitely be worth it.

As you can see, composting is super easy and beneficial for your garden! See Kim’s quick video below to help you make your own organic soil today.
