Important Seed Terms That Every New Gardener Should Know

Gardening is not a complicated thing to do, but some new gardeners may still have a hard time learning and understanding some concepts about it.

For example, you may have found seeds that are labeled as organic. These organic seeds are the rage nowadays. They’re preferred among all seed types because they’re the freshest and healthiest seeds you can possibly get. They also contain more nutrients than their synthetic counterparts.

Another seed term example that’s quite common these days is GMO. GMO stands for “genetically-modified organism,” which means the seeds have been genetically altered. The process generally involves taking some genes from the DNA of one plant and adding those genes into the specific plant they want to modify.

According to the The Organic & Non-GMO Report, “one of the main problems with genetic engineering is that the process of inserting genes into the DNA of a food plant is random; scientists have no idea where the genes go. This can disrupt the functioning of other genes and create novel proteins that have never been in the food supply and could create toxins and allergens in foods.”

As you can see, GMO seeds are inconsistent and harmful to one’s health. So if you want the safest and most natural foods for your family, you should definitely stay away from GMOs no matter what.
